In the online business world having a domain is crucial to success. And not just any domain, but your OWN domain. Your domain is your more than just some words put together. It is your brand and can gain authority in the online world.
But where should you buy one? What’s the best place to buy a domain name? Lets have a look and see.
First off, What’s the cheapest place
If you are like me you are always looking for the best deal. It doesn’t matter how much money you have, you still want to buy things for the right price. To you and I, cheap is good.
So what is the cheapest?
When determining this lets look at the varying prices of available domains with the “.com” extension because they are the most popular. But just remember, the cheapest isn’t always the best.
In first place due to price comes GoDaddy.com. However, this is only for your first domain purchase. If you are new to GoDaddy you can get your first domain at $0.99 for the first year. This is a discount from the original price of $14.99/year, which is nothing special. GoDaddy’s discount prices will vary from time to time, but they always seems to have the best discounts for new customers.
Coming in with the second cheapest price is NameCheap.com. If you’re buying near Christmas time there is a chance you could get a discount around half price, but for any other time of the year you are looking at a solid $10.69/year for a .com domain. No discount on the first year here.
NameCheap does include a free WhoisGuard with your domain however. WhoisGuard protects your privacy so that people cannot see your name and address when they do a “whois” search on your domain.
And then in 3rd place comes Name.com. You can purchase a .com domain here for $10.99/year. Its not much of a difference from NameCheap when it comes to the domain alone, but here you have to pay for the Whois privacy. It will cost you another $3.99/year giving you a total of $14.98/year.
So there you have it. If you are being thrifty and looking to save as much money as possible when purchasing a domain these are your top 3 choices. GoDaddy.com is without a doubt the cheapest for new customers in the first year, but then it actually is more expensive than NameCheap.com and Name.com after that initial year.
But there is more to a “good” domain registrar than just price
The downside to the domain registrars mentioned above is that you pretty much HAVE to pay for other features.
For example I mentioned the “Whoisguard” or “Whois protection” or whatever they want to call it, its all the same. This is something that most people are going to want and its going to cost you. All three domain purchase sites mentioned above will charge you for that (NameCheap will after the first year).
Another is email addresses. If you want to look professional you aren’t going to put your personal email address in your contact information on your website. You want the email address to be associated with your site. For example Yourname@yourwebsite.com looks a lot better than email@example.com. And to get an email address on your new purchased domain you better believe you are going to have to pay for it. Well at least for the majority of domain registrars out there.
And the list goes on. Website protection, upgrades, website tools, there are many other upsells that you might be hit with that will drive that once low purchase price to a price you wouldn’t have paid for in the first place.
With that in mind I want to introduce you to a domain registrar that is very new and much less known, but I’m betting you its going to be huge.
Wealthy Affiliate, an online business platform, just launched Site Domains at the beginning of this year (2016). As you could imagine since Wealthy Affiliate is dedicated to helping people get online businesses up and running, their new site registration platform is as good as it gets.
Why is it so good?
Because it comes with everything you need to build your sites. It comes WITH full privacy and domain protection, support, and full email accounts. And when I say “with” I mean it is all included in the domain purchase price. No upsells here. No buying and later finding out it is more than you like. No hidden costs. No sucking you in just to get your money.
Oh, and its a flat rate every year. No surprises when you look at your credit card statement.
Take a look at this comparison to get a better understanding
In my opinion Site Domains is the best domain registrar out there right now, but that is up to how you view it and what you are buying a domain for.
If you are just going to buy a domain to blog on with no real purpose than I would go ahead and buy through NameCheap of GoDaddy. The reason is that you won’t need a website email and the other stuff. You can get by with just the domain.
But if you are looking to start and online business, and you are serious about it, Wealthy Affiliate’s Site Domain is without a doubt the better choice. You get all you need to build your website into a business, and its all in one fixed price.
