Userlytics Tester Jobs – Scam or Easy Money Testing Websites/Apps?

By Kyle / December 14, 2018
Userlytics website

Are these Userlytics tester jobs really as good as they seem? Can you really get paid $5 - $20 or more just for looking over a website or mobile app and testing it out? Is it really this simple?

Or… Worst-case scenario… Could this all be one big scam that is just going to be a waste of your time?

Well… I'll get straight to the point here and tell you that No this place is not a scam. You really can make money by reviewing websites and apps, and it is pretty darn simple. In fact, you can join with absolutely zero experience, which is one of the reasons so many people are looking into becoming a tester here.

But… As always… There are a few downsides to the job as you will see in my review here. In this review I'll be going over the service that this place provides, what the job is like as a tester, how much money you can make, the requirements to join, complaints and more.

What Is Userlytics?

Userlytics is what you call a usability testing site. They provide a service for clients that consist of website owners, app developers, etc. where they provide a workforce of testers to make sure everything is working smoothly and glitch-free.

Okay… Maybe that wasn't the best explanation. But here's how it works in a nutshell:

Companies want to make sure that their websites and apps are functioning as good as possible. So what do they do? They hire a place like Userlytics to get a bunch of people to test out there sites/apps for them… And of course this is where you, the tester, comes into play.

For example, Amazon wants to make it as easy as possible for people to buy things on their website or through their mobile app. So let's say they just had some new update to their mobile app. This would be a very important time to get people to test it out and make sure that everything is still working as it should.

Crowdsourcing the tester job, which is what Userlytics does, is a cost-effective and easy way for clients to get the feedback they need… And it is a great and extremely flexible extra income opportunity for anyone looking to make some easy money.

The Job of a Tester

The job is pretty darn simple. After going through the application process, which is very simple as well, you will have to download the Userlytics Recorder to whichever device you want to use to take these tests on.

When you take a test you will have a list of tasks that you are to complete. These will be laid out for you and you will simply have to complete the tasks and record yourself as you go through them, speaking your mind as you navigate about.

It is very important that you give is good feedback as possible. You want to not just say what you see, but also give your opinions of things. If your task is to add an item to the shopping cart on an e-commerce store and you have trouble navigating about to do this, make sure you voice your opinion on it.

Some examples of tasks you may be asked to perform include…

  • Look for a product by searching around a site
  • Adding an item to the cart
  • Giving feedback on the site layout
  • Giving feedback on advertisement effectiveness
  • Registering an account
  • And so on...

These tests take around 20 to 40 minutes generally speaking. Or at least that is what it says on the website.

While some will require that you use your WebCam to record yourself as you complete the tasks, not all of them require this. Some of them just require you to record your screen and voice, which is nice because not everyone wants to get on a WebCam.

After you have completed all the tasks and your recording is complete, you will be able to submit it and then you just have to wait for it to be approved. The client will be able to give you feedback so make sure you put some effort into this. They have a rating system in place in the better rating you have the more opportunity you will get.

What's The Pay Like?

Believe it or not you can actually make from $5 to $90 per test, which is an absolutely massive range. However, you will normally make in the $5 - $20 range, so don't expect to be earning $90 per test. They mentioned that it is possible, but I'm guessing these are very rare cases.

You Will get paid via PayPal every Friday, so obviously you're going to have to live somewhere where you are able to open up a PayPal account.

Best seen as an extra income opportunity...

One thing that you definitely have to know is that this is only in extra income opportunity. This is not something you can make a full time income with.

While the money is good considering the time you invest, you simply do not have the opportunity to make all that much because it is not like you can take a test after test, all day long. There just aren't that many tests available.

The amount of tests you get access to depends on things like your demographics and the ratings you get from clients, but generally speaking it seems that you can expect to get just several tests per month. I wouldn't expect anything more than 4 or so a month, although it is possible.

Requirements to Join

Most usability testing sites like this require testers to be at least 18 years old, however this place only requires that you are 16 or older.

And as far as location goes, they hired testers from Europe, North America, South Africa, Southeast Asia, Japan, China and other places.

The equipment requirements include the following…

  • Webcam
  • Windows 7 or newer/ MacOS 10.9.5 or newer
  • Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, or Chrome internet browser
  • Microphone

Now I did list WebCam, but as I mentioned earlier, not all tests require that you use a WebCam.

So all in all the requirements are pretty lenient and most people out there looking into this probably can join right here and now without doing anything else.

There isn't even a qualification test that you will need to pass. It is as simple as applying.

When looking into this job opportunity it was a breath of fresh air to see that there weren't complaints everywhere.

I have reviewed similar websites in the past, like UserTesting for example, that have had a heck of a lot of complaints about them being a scam, not treating their testers well, and so on.

If you look for complaints on Userlytics you won't find anything concerning. Why? Well… Because this is a professional company that does what they say they do and treats their testers well.

The only real complaint I have that is worth mentioning is the lack of opportunity. It would be nice if these places didn't have so many testers, so that there wouldn't be so much competition to get a test and each tester would have more opportunities, but unfortunately this is not the case and it is this way for every usability testing website I've come across.

Conclusion - Scam or Not?

So is Userlytics a scam? The obvious answer is Heck No. This is definitely one of the better places out there that I have come across. While the income opportunity may not be as good as you were expecting, and you certainly shouldn't expect to make $90 per test, it is still like pretty good opportunity. You do get paid a good amount based on the work that you do in my opinion.

Just don't expect to strike it rich and definitely don't count on this as a means of income… Simply look at it as a way to earn a little bit of extra income on the side.

You might also want to take a look at this list of other usability testing websites where you can get paid to do this as well.

And if you are looking for a way to make money online that as a little more potential for big earnings, I would suggest taking a look at this program that I use to make over $6000 a month online.

Comments, questions, concerns? Just leave them down below and I'll get back to you as soon as I can 🙂 If you have your own review on Userlytics I would greatly appreciate it if you left it down below.
