If you like taking pictures and like making money, then Markedshot is an option you may be interested in. But is this place worth your time and effort? Or is Markedshot a scam that is just going to be a waste for you?
Being interested in photography myself and taking pictures often with my smartphone, I was interested in seeing if this opportunity really lives up to the hype. So I took a look into it and in this review I’ll be going over a few things that you should know before you decide whether or not you should sign up.
- Website: markedshot.com
- App Availability: Apple Store & Google Play
- Recommended?: For some, more on this
Markedshot is a way for amateur photographers to make money taking pictures of just about anything they want. Basically its an online stock photo marketplace similar to Shutterstock, GettyImages, Adobe Stock and others. Just the difference here is that Markedshot is more geared toward amateurs and is much more beginner friendly.
Anyone can join this site or download their app and begin taking photos, uploading them, and potentially making money. Its pretty much the same thing as Foap, which is also an amateur stock photo marketplace.
Its a pretty awesome idea but there are some downsides that I will be going over.
How It Works
Its pretty simple how it all works. Once you join for free and create your own account, you will then be able to upload your own pictures to the marketplace. These pictures can be of anything just about, other than mature or graphic images.
Once you upload your photos they are then available for anyone to see and purchase if they wish to. Individuals and businesses can purchase these pictures and once they do, they have unlimited use of the image.
You ,the photographer, earn 50% of what the photo sold for. The other half will go to Markedshot.
How Much Can You Make?
You could make some decent money with the Markedshot app or you also might make nothing at all. It really depends on your pictures.
In the marketplace pictures sell at a flat $5 rate, which I think is a fair price. That means that you will be making $2.50, which is 50% of the original price.
$2.50 obviously isn’t very much for selling one image. But one thing that you have to remember is that because these images are all digital, you will be able to sell each one an infinite number of times. So if you have one that really catches wind you could make some decent money off a single image.
There is really no telling how much you will actually make though. This depends on the quality of images you are taking, the quantity that you are posting, the market demand, and other variables.
One piece of advice I would give though is to only use Markedshot as a fun way to use your love for photography to make some extra cash, don’t go in expecting a lot.
What Type of Pictures Can You Take?
Like I mentioned earlier, you can take pretty much any picture you want to as long as its not inappropriate. Just to give you an example of some pictures that are on the marketplace right now, below is a screenshot of featured photos…
Now one thing to note is that these are the “featured photos”. This means that they are some of the better ones on the market. You will also find a lot of more amateur-ish ones out there also.
What I Like About Markedshot
There isn’t much that I don’t like honestly. Markedshot is all very straightforward and easy to use. It is very easy to navigate and no one should have any sort of problem using it.
I like how it is more geared towards beginner photographers. This gives amateurs a good way to get their feet wet and learn the tricks of the trade.
Also, one thing that I really like is the photo contests that they hold.
Every so often there will be photo contest where you can win a prize if you win. These contests will be for the best photo of something specific.
These photo contests are usually done because businesses need a certain type of photo for their website, or an ad, or anything really, and they are looking for a quick way to get a good one.
So Markedshot will host these contests and reward the winner with a prize or some sort. Just to give you and example of some contests here are two recent ones…
Once you click on the contest you will be able to read the photo requirements. And as you can see you can win some seriously good prizes. That first contest is giving away a 2 night resort stay to the winner.
- More than likely won’t make much money
- App technical problems
- Need to go through video verification to sign up on the site (you will have to use your webcam to show them that you are real and not a bot)
Final Thoughts & Is It Worth Your Time?
Overall I like Markedshot and its definitely not a scam. However, its not all that great of an opportunity either for some people. Whether its a good opportunity for you really depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking to make a lot money then this isn’t for you. But if you are an aspiring photographer looking to get your feet wet and make some extra cash in the process then this is for you.
So if you like taking pictures and want to earn some extra cash then go for it. Just don’t go in thinking you are going to get rich by any means.
If you are looking to make good money online then what I would suggest to you is to take a peek at how I do so. I make a living working online for myself and I enjoy what I do. I wrote a post (link below) on what it is that I do, how it all works, and how others can get started doing the same.
