If you are looking to make a little extra money online in your spare time then MyPoints.com is on of the options that you have. But should you trust this place and even bother with it? Or is MyPoints.com a scam that is going to be nothing more than a waste of your time?
Anyone that knows me knows that I like testing out new sites for making money online for the fun of it. After all, I make a living online so its right up my alley. I looked into MyPoints to see if its any good. There are a lot of similar sites to this so just because you can make some money at this one doesn’t necessarily mean its a good choice. But in this review I will be going over exactly that… whether I think its a good choice or not.
- Website: mypoints.com
- Type: GPT site
- Cost: Free to join
- Legit?: Yes
MyPoints.com is what you call a GPT site, or a Get Paid To site. All this means is that you can earn money on this site by doing simple things like completing online surveys, reading emails, shopping, watching videos, and more.
If you have ever heard of SwagBucks or GlobalTestMarket then you pretty much know what I’m talking about here. MyPoints is the same type of deal. Basically how it works is companies pay them to collect information on consumers (market research) so that they can better their products and services. So MyPoints offers money as an incentive to take surveys, among other tasks, as a way to conduct research.
This place is free to sign up for and it only takes a minute.
How You Make Money
I am not going to be covering every way to make money here but these are the most popular ones that you should know about…
When you want to shop online you can do so by going through MyPoints. They are partnered with around 2,000 online stores. You can earn points for each dollar spent at one of the stores they are partnered with. Usually this is around 1-4 points per dollar.
You can earn up to 400 points taking surveys on this site. They range from 5-25 minutes generally, with the longer surveys paying out more. Before you take these surveys you will have to fill out a profile for yourself so that they can match you up with ones that are appropriate to you.
Yes, you can actually make money by reading emails that they send you. Some of them will even give you a few points just for opening them. This is an easy way to earn but you won’t earn much.
They have a bunch of videos you can watch to earn points. These videos might be about cooking, biking, traveling,… you never know. They pay very little but obviously are an easy way to earn. You can expect around 6 points for a series of videos that will take around 25 minutes to watch.
By referring other people to join MyPoints you can earn 10% of what they earn throughout their lifetime.
How Much Will You Really Make?
In order to determine how much you are really making you have to look at the rewards that you get. Because the points you receive are worth nothing until you actually redeem them for rewards of real value.
They PayPal cash and a variety of gift cards ranging from $3 to $100 in value. To give an example of how much a point is worth, you can generally expect a $10 gift card to cost you anywhere from 1,300 to 1,700 points. They range depending on where the gift card is for but that is a general range that you will see.
So if 1,300 to 1,700 points = $10 then that means about 130 – 170 points will get you $1.
How You Get Paid
As mentioned, you can get PayPal cash or a variety of gift cards. You can also redeem your points for travel miles with a United Mileage Plus account.
The minimum amount that you can cash out with is $3 worth of points, so 390 – 510 points. And the only thing you can redeem these points for with this amount is a $3 Amazon gift card. Right now this gift card is priced at 480 points but that is subject to change.
Once you get more money in your account, $5 for example, there are a lot more gift cards you can cash out for. And with $10 there are more yet.
You are going to need $25 minimum in your account if you are going to want to get PayPal cash. This is my preferred method but $25 will take a while to get to so you might want to just go with a gift card.
MyPoints is your normal GPT site, nothing out of the ordinary or anything like that. I don’t have any strange complaints here, just things that are expected with sites like this. They include…
If you do the math you will find that the amount of money you are making for your time is insanely low. This is the industry standard for sites like this nowadays.
You sure as heck aren’t going to get that good feeling you get when you accomplish something worthwhile. The things you will be doing on this site are mindless. Some people like this however.
Got a problem redeeming your points, earning points, getting into your account? Good luck with that because the support team doesn’t do a very good job at providing support.
Final Thoughts & What I Recommend
Overall I would say that MyPoints is a decent GPT site. They aren’t a scam and you can make real money here. I would still probably recommend SwagBucks over this one though. Its hard to say really but SwagBucks just offers more ways to earn money and I think they do a better job at making it a little more fun to earn.
But honestly I don’t see the point much in any of the GPT sites out there. They are an easy way to earn a little extra change but that’s it…. just extra change. There are better ways to make money with your spare time.
I actually make a living working for myself online and I sure as heck am not going around taking paid surveys, reading emails, etc. I have written a post on what I do to make money online, how it all works, and how others can do the same.
