If you are looking to buy or sell on Listia you might be a little suspicious of their claims. Can this place really be trusted? Or is Listia a scam that is nothing more than a waste of your precious time?
I have been getting some questions on the legitimacy of this site so I finally decided to take a look into it and see if it lives up to the hype. In this short review I’ll be going over all you need to know about this site… how it works, the goods & bads, and whether or not I recommend you use Listia.
- Name: Listia
- Website: listia.com
- Recommended?: For some, more on this
Listia is a pretty interesting site where you can buy and sell new and used products. Its a marketplace that is very similar to eBay, which everyone knows of. Anyone can create an account and start selling things that they don’t want or buying things that they do want from other sellers. This is also similar to the Mercari app if you are familiar with that.
The unique part about Listia is that everything is free…. well kinda. What I mean by this is that you don’t sell things for actual money. But there is value here and Listia is something I would consider if I were looking to buy things or make some “money” selling things.
“Credits” are the form of online currency that you will be using on Listia. When you sell things you won’t get real money. Instead you will receive credits. This may seem like a downside, but these credits can then be used to buy other people’s items on Listia, so they do have real value.
You can also sell credits to other people for real money that you can cash out via Paypal. So you can make cold hard cash here.
How It Works
Its ALL about credits. Whether you are looking to sell things on Listia and make money or if you are looking to buy things… its all about getting credits. If its money you want, you will first have to rack up the credits to be able to sell them for cash. And if its products you are looking to buy, you are going to need credits to buy the stuff.
So its all about getting credits. And there are a bunch of different ways you can earn these credits, some of the more important ways I’ll go over.
1) Selling Things
Selling items for free on Listia is going to be the best way to get credits. You can earn credits very fast this way and lots of them. Just to give you an idea of how many credits you can earn selling things I took a screenshot of some random items for sale right now.
As you can see there is a tote bag selling for 12,510,000 credits and ring selling for 7,010,000 credits.
2) Taking Surveys & More
That’s right, Listia also offers online surveys that you can take to earn credits as well as offers you can complete. This is similar to sites like SwagBucks. Basically what they are doing here is performing market research that can then be sold to big companies. So they are getting paid for you to complete the surveys and they are paying you in the form of credits.
These surveys are usually anywhere from 10-25 minutes in length and could literally be on just about anything.
Listia is also mix between a cash back site, but instead of giving “cash back” for shopping, they give “credits back”.
Here you can earn credits by shopping online at popular stores like Macy’s, Best Buy, GameStop, and a bunch more.
You can earn up to around 600+ credits per $1 spent in some cases.
4) Referring People
They have a referral program where you can earn credits for each person you get to sign up for a Listia account. You will earn 10,000 credits per referral which can really add up.
5) Buying Credits
You can also buy credits straight up. You will be buying from members that are looking to sell.
How You Can Get Paid
Ok, so one way that you could consider being “getting paid” paid would be buying other items on Listia. You can use your credits to buy anything you want.
If you are looking for cold hard cash, you can also get this. Listia will match you up with someone that is looking to buy credits and they will pay for them. You will get paid via PayPal.
The Downside of Listia
I don’t really have all that many complaints when it comes to Listia. The whole credit system is kind-of unnecessary but I like it just because its unique and works pretty well.
My main complaints are that there are “hidden” fees that you should know about before signing up or not. Listia is free technically, but its going to cost you and I’ll go over why.
Verifying your PayPal account is definitely necessary in my opinion but this will cost you. Its only a $1 verification fee which isn’t bad, but its still something worth noting.
Shipping isn’t always free. It can be if the seller lists it as free, but a seller can list it at whatever they see fit.
As a seller, if you charge for shipping via Paypal you should take note that Paypal will charge a fee for the transaction. Its only around $0.35 or so per transaction so its nothing major.
And as a buyer the shipping will cost you more. The amount you will have to pay for shipping will vary depending on the item and the seller.
Final Thoughts & Do I Recommend Listia?
First off, Listia is definitely not a scam. They are a reputable site and after reviewing them I like what I have seen. They put a special twist on the online bidding marketplace world and I think its pretty cool.
I would recommend this site mainly to people looking to get rid of small items that they can offer free shipping for. This is because they are easiest to sell because buyers are much more likely to buy with free shipping. But you can sell other items to.
If you are looking to use Listia to make money online then its not the best choice. Its good in all but you just aren’t likely going to make much. Its more for those looking to get rid of things and make a small profit in the meantime.
For those looking to make money online I would suggest taking a peek at how I make money online. I make a living working for myself online and its an enjoyable line of work. You can learn more about it by clicking the link below that will take you to a post I wrote.
In the post I wrote I explain what it is that I do, how it all works, and how others can do the same.
