The Barefoot Writer Club claims to be your ticket to making good money freelance writing online. But is it really all that it is hyped up to be? Or is this place another scam that is going to leave you discouraged and be a waste of your money and time?
I recently stumbled across this program and thought I would take a closer look into it. I make a living working online and writing is what my job mainly consists of, so this was right up my alley. In this short Barefoot Writer review I’ll be going over a few things that you should know about this place that they don’t tell you. Things that are very important to know. And ultimately I’ll be answering the question of whether or not I think this place is a scam.
Barefoot Writer Review
- Name: Barefoot Writer Club
- Type: Freelance writers membership club
- Cost: Varies
- Recommended?: Not really; more on this
The Barefoot Writer is a subscription club that is run by American Writers & Artists Inc. If order to become a member you have to pay a yearly subscription fee which will vary (it was set at $108/yr when I looked into the program recently).
Barefoot Writer isn’t going to make you rich and its not like you are going to get access to some “secret system” that is going to make you tons of money. I know there are some promotional pages out there that are really overselling this membership club but much of what they say is misleading and largely over-hyped.
But The Barefoot Writer isn’t a “bad” product in my opinion. Its just that I wouldn’t call it a complete program. It leaves more to be desired and somewhat “leaves you hanging”.
What You Get
If you are looking for some easy method to make money online then this just isn’t going to work out.
Basically all this place does is provides support and help to get you to make money as a freelance writer, more specifically a copywriter. You will have community support in which you will be able to interact with other members who have the same goals as you, you will get advice on things you should do, you will be given access to articles that talk about finding writing jobs, and you will be notified of opportunities there are for you (there’s a catch here that I will go over next).
But this is all somewhat of a very vague “blueprint” (if you want to call it that). This isn’t for someone that is just kind-of interested in writing online. This is going to take a lot of action taking on your part and a lot of determination. Its not like this is going to give you a step by step guide to making money online as a freelance writer. They do have instructional videos and lectures that you will have access to but its not like they are going to hold your hand and walk you through every step.
Oh, and also you will get a monthly edition of The Barefoot Writer Magazine. This magazine will be delivered via email every month and it will include tips, advice, profiles of copywrite freelancers that are successful, and other things to keep you moving along and motivated.
Got Money Sitting Around?
One thing that you need to know for sure is that other products and programs are going to be promoted to you.
These “opportunities” that I mentioned you will get access to above can cost you hundreds of more dollars and this is something that most people are totally unaware of before they buy into this, which is expected considering they tell you nothing about it.
This is a deceptive and unethical online business practice that is very “scammy” and I am not a fan of it.
My Thoughts On This Program
To me it seems that this program was developed more to make money off of people rather than to help them achieve a freelance writing career that they can make good money with. This does provide some good advice, instructions, etc… but its far from being “complete”.
To succeed with this program you are either going to have to be one heck of a determined individual and go out and do much research on your own, or you are going to have to buy into the “opportunities” that they will try to upsell you on, which still might not be worth it.
The magazine that you will receive with this membership along with all the motivational material seems like its more like an opportunity to sell you on other things rather than to keep you motivated to achieve the end goal.
Anyway… that is my take on it. I know a lot of other people agree but some probably disagree with me as well.
My Advice To You
Freelance writing is a career opportunity that is growing and will continue to grow more and more as far as I see it. I personally know freelance writers and it is possible to make good money doing so. So there is no reason to give up on this career path. I just don’t thing that Barefoot Writer is a very good choice. I don’t consider it a scam but its just not a good choice in my opinion.
If you are new to this all there are plenty of freelance writing opportunities available on freelance sites like Upwork and PeoplePerHour. These sites can get you some good paying gigs but its difficult to get a start in because of all the competition from other freelancers.
As an alternative to freelancing you could also do what I do to make a living online. Basically what I do is create small blog-style websites and promote products on them. About 99% of what I do is writing so it would be a good fit for anyone that is looking to become a freelance writer.
I got started doing this in 2015 and am making a living doing it now. I wrote a post where I explain everything that I do, how it all works, and how others can get started doing the same. You can read it here.
